The ‘Art Macao: International Art Exhibition’ is a five-month mega international art and cultural event. From June to October, the place will be imbued with artistic vitality and creativity with surprises at each corner!

The outdoor installations on the streets of Macao are a treat by Art Macao for the tourists and residents alike! It is presented in collaboration with various artists, at selected captivating and iconic spaces in Macao.

Now, their art is closer than ever and an integral part of the daily life!

This new cultural tourism experience has an intention to shatter the concepts of space.

Here are 3 such structures you have to visit today!

  1. Sanctuary by João Ó and Rita Machado:

 A bamboo structure designed by local architects, designers and artists João Ó and Rita Machado, founders of Macao’s multidisciplinary studio practice Impromptu Projects; this eminent installation is exhibited within the defence walls of the Mount Fortress Garden. It is seven meters high and a unique way of providing tourists and residents with a shady art space. The bamboo is used as a tribute to the ancient constructive methods and to bring a sense of belonging to the local community. Find your peace of mind, rest and contemplate in this space of historic value before your next journey.

     2. Silver Manned Horse No. 5 by Yu Fan:

 Horses are pretty common when it comes to art but Yu Fan’s innovation is out of this world. Silver Manned Horse No. 5 is painted in glossy car paint and is the first of its kind. The traditional aesthetics and form were modernized by wandering in the area between horse and non-horse. A concept like never before, this sculpture seems light as air. It makes you wonder and think beyond limitations.

  1. The Wanderer by Wong Ka Long:

 Fernando Pessoa, a famous Portuguese poet and author ‘invented’ personalities by fabricating 75 heteronyms to replace him. Local artist Wong Ka Long has presented these very sculptures of Pessoa in the form of glass fiber with paint, to make him known to the audience. The exhibition is made up of 22 pieces. The most intriguing part is that the ‘wanderers’ are and aren’t Pessoa at the same time! Delight yourself and discover Pessoa’s poetic quality, philosophy and genius at this riveting exhibit. The artist invites you all to understand more about the spiritual world. The work is on display at the Taipa Houses which is considered one of Macao’s most engrossing locations.
